Royal Caribbean

The biggest ships and the boldest thrills at sea.

ContemporaryHigh-energy, upbeat and family-forward — but big enough that couples can still find calm corners.

Overview

Is Royal Caribbean right for your crew?

Royal Caribbean built its reputation on scale and innovation. Its newest Oasis- and Icon-class ships are among the largest in the world, organized into distinct “neighborhoods” so a 6,000-guest ship never feels like one crowd. You’ll find a full-size waterpark, the FlowRider surf simulator, ziplines, ice-skating rinks and record-setting slides alongside quieter adults-only solariums. It’s a line that turns the ship itself into the destination, which is why it’s the easiest recommendation for anyone nervous that a cruise might be boring.

Who it’s best for

  • Families with kids and teens
  • First-time cruisers who want plenty to do
  • Multi-generational groups
  • Active travelers who like onboard thrills

Popular ships

Icon / Star / Legend of the Seas

The Icon-class lineup pairs eight themed neighborhoods with huge family zones, expansive pool decks and headline entertainment.

Wonder / Symphony of the Seas

Oasis-class icons with Central Park, the Boardwalk and headline entertainment.

Odyssey of the Seas

Quantum-class tech — the North Star observation capsule and RipCord skydiving simulator.

Cabin recommendations

Families

Neighborhood balconies can offer strong value on Oasis-class ships: Central Park is generally calmer, while Boardwalk is livelier and may include partial ocean views.

Value seekers

On select ships, interior “Virtual Balcony” staterooms show a real-time exterior view on a screen for less than a true balcony.

Special occasions

Junior Suites add meaningful space without the full suite price, but locations and Royal Suite Class benefits vary by ship.

Dining

Complimentary main dining room, Windjammer buffet and casual cafés are included. Specialty venues worth the upcharge include Chops Grille (steak), Izumi (hibachi & sushi) and Wonderland (a playful, avant-garde tasting menu). Unlimited Dining Packages pay off quickly if you plan three or more specialty nights.

Entertainment

Broadway-style and licensed stage productions (including titles like Hairspray and Grease on select ships), AquaTheater high-dive shows, ice-skating spectaculars and the Two70 transforming venue. Nightlife runs from silent discos to English pubs and a comedy club.

What’s included

  • All main dining rooms, buffet and casual eateries
  • Broadway-caliber shows and live entertainment
  • Kids’ and teens’ clubs (Adventure Ocean)
  • Pools and ship-specific attractions such as waterslides or FlowRider
  • Fitness center and rock-climbing walls on select ships

Royal Caribbean FAQs

It’s arguably the best mainstream line for families. Adventure Ocean youth programs span ages 6 months to 17, and the biggest ships have waterparks, mini-golf, laser tag and teen-only spaces so every age is entertained.

For maximum “wow,” an Oasis- or Icon-class ship. If you prefer a slightly calmer first sailing at a lower price, a Freedom- or Voyager-class ship still has plenty to do. We’ll match the ship to your group before you book.

It depends on the sailing’s package price, onboard drink prices and how much time you’ll spend ashore. We’ll compare the daily cost with your realistic beverage habits and explain the stateroom purchase rules before you decide.
